CAPANNORI TECHNOLOGICAL CENTRE:
ENERGY SAVING DESIGN

Status

The Technological Centre of Capannori, is a strategic framework for innovation in the footwear industry, which is one of the historical industry areas of Capannori. In addition, the centre will also be a point of reference at national level, for Nanotechnology, in collaboration with Pisa University and the Normal School of Pisa. The technology park created by Capannori Municipality, and other partners, such as the Province of Lucca, Lucca’s Chamber of Commerce, Tuscany Region and Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca, had a cost € 5 million. The building is on an area of 1,600 square meters over two floors.

The work done

The first phase of the work was aimed at the choice of the type of heating and cooling plant to be adopted. The foresight of the former Director of Public Works, Arch Arnaldo Rinaldi, with the technical advice of CREA Engineerin, led to an interesting preliminary work of Diagnosis and Energy-Saving Design of the building. Thanks to that, the effects of each type of heating plant hypothesized, from geothermal to solar were verified in terms of primary energy consumption. This important work phase led the technicians to the best choice, in terms of energy efficiency and payback time. Following this, a direct expansion heating and cooling plant, powered by a photovoltaic plant of about 20 kW was chosen ensuring the acquisition of energy class A. CREA also worked on the final design of the first version of the building, as well as in the Construction Supervision of the current version of the Technological Pole.

The results

The work will allow the company to achieve an important economic and energy savings as well as a greater environmental value o its own installation.
